AI Act & transparency

Last updated 24 September 2026

Listwyse uses AI to retouch photos and create showroom scenes and films. Here is where we stand under the EU AI Act, the safeguards we build in, and what we recommend dealers disclose.

The short version

  • Listwyse is a generative AI system with transparency duties under Article 50 of the EU AI Act. It is not high-risk.
  • We change the photo, never the car: plates, badges and condition are kept as photographed.
  • Label AI-generated settings and films on your listings. Suggested wording is below.
  • We don't train AI on your content.

Our principle: a better picture of the real car

Listwyse exists to make honest listings look better — not to make cars look like something they aren't. Every tool is designed so the vehicle a buyer sees online is the vehicle they find on your lot: same colour, same trim, same wheels, same condition.

We change light, reflections and surroundings. We don't invent equipment, erase damage you've chosen to keep, or generate cars that don't exist.

Where Listwyse sits under the EU AI Act

The EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) sorts AI by risk. Here is how it applies to us:

  • Not prohibited, not high-risk. Creating marketing imagery for vehicles is not among the practices banned by Article 5 or the high-risk uses in Annex III.
  • Transparency obligations (Article 50). Because Listwyse generates and edits images, video and voice, we are a provider of generative AI systems. We must make our outputs identifiable as AI-generated, including in machine-readable form. These obligations apply from 2 August 2026.
  • Built on general-purpose AI. Our pipeline uses third-party general-purpose AI models, which carry their own obligations under the Act. We choose and configure them, and we are responsible for the system you use.
  • Dealers are “deployers”. Businesses that publish AI-generated or manipulated images that could be mistaken for authentic must disclose that they are AI-generated (Article 50(4)), and should make sure staff using AI understand it (Article 4, AI literacy).

Safeguards built into every output

  • Vehicle-first generation. Every image and film is referenced to your own photos of that specific vehicle.
  • Plate lock. Number plates, badges and on-screen content are held as photographed unless you switch on dealer display plates.
  • “Keep every mark”. A dealership setting that stops tidying from touching scratches, dents or wear on used stock.
  • No invented specifications. VIN voiceovers only use decoded vehicle data and never claim trim or options that can't be confirmed.
  • Originals always kept. Your original photos stay next to every output so you can compare before publishing.
  • You decide what goes live. Listwyse never publishes on your behalf. Every output is reviewed and published by you.

Labelling and machine-readable marking

Images and films generated or edited by Listwyse carry industry-standard provenance metadata: the IPTC “digital source type” field, embedded as XMP. It identifies showroom sets, custom studios and films as AI-generated, and enhanced photos as real photos edited with AI. Google, Meta and most image tools read this field. We are evaluating C2PA Content Credentials as a next step.

The marking is invisible and doesn't change the image. Some editing tools and resizing services remove metadata, so publish the files as delivered where you can and please don't strip it deliberately.

Machine-readable marks don't replace a visible label. We recommend a short line near the gallery or in the video caption:

  • “Actual vehicle shown. Showroom background created with AI.”
  • “Photographed on our lot. Lighting and reflections retouched; vehicle condition unchanged.”
  • “Video created with AI from photos of this vehicle.”

More wording, plus how UK and US advertising rules apply, is in our disclosure guide.

What we ask of dealers

  1. Review every image and film before you publish it.
  2. Never use Listwyse to hide damage or change a vehicle's colour, trim, equipment or condition.
  3. Label AI-generated settings and films where your buyers will see them.
  4. Keep the provenance metadata on files you publish.
  5. Make sure the people using Listwyse in your team understand what it does — our Resources section is a good starting point.

Your data and model training

We do not use your photos, videos or outputs to train AI models. Photos are sent to our AI infrastructure providers only to create the outputs you ask for. Details are in our Privacy policy.

Reporting a problem

If an output changes a vehicle in a way it shouldn't — a different badge, a missing scratch, the wrong wheels — tell us at support@getlistwyse.com. We look into every report and use what we learn to tighten our checks.
